Transitional Weather Fashion – All You Need is a Good Blazer

Before today I didn’t really realize how distinctly easy it is to dress up for a particular season. I mean if you think about it, there has always been a clear demarcation where summer always equates to white cottons and beige linens, with winters equating to darker hues, and knitted cardigans.

While the climate goes through this cycle every year – at this very moment though – given the erratic nature of the temperature outside I can veritably say we are in a phase of transitional weather.

If you’ve not heard of it before, it is that time of the year just before the transition is complete. That is, before the winter fully oozes out and summer fully settles in – there is this interim period where the climate goes through a phase of mixed seasons. Mornings come with a shivery like feel; afternoons are marked with hot patches and bursts of sweat, and evenings and nights come with a coldness of its own.

This phase of unpredictability is referred to as transitional weather, and what you wear during this phase is commonly referred to as transitional weather fashion. Up until a couple of years ago – much to my chagrin –  I didn’t even know such a phase existed, let alone the fact that it was so widely acknowledged as a season unto itself in the fashion industry.

However, despite being given a name and a definition – what one can actually wear during this precarious period still remains to be a hot topic of debate. And, much like the climate itself, many respected fashion industry veterans have come up with their own polarizing opinions.

And, here I am (neither respected, not a veteran) – adding my own.

While everyone says the key to dressing up for transitional weather is layering up, I say the only key to those layers is none other than a really good blazer. Trust me when I say this, because I could give you four reasons why blazers should become an integral part of your transitional weather fashion wardrobe.

The primary reason being, blazers neither fall under the ‘winter fashion’ category nor do they fall under the ‘summer fashion’ category. You see, unlike other time bound fashion elements like dresses or coats, blazers don’t come with an expiry date. I mean, beyond summer how often do you see women parading around in dresses? And beyond winter who is crazy enough to wear a coat? But blazers somehow seem to look elegant and classy on looks created for both seasons.

The secondary reason blazers are a good choice as a transitional weather fashion staple is because they are practical. For chilly mornings a blazer offers you a warm cover from the cold, and once the heat of the afternoon sets in, you can easily take it off. Once the breeze pick-ups in the evening, you can slide it back on.

The third reason they are great is because you can literally combine them anything! Be it a skirt, a dress, shorts, formal pants or even jeans! This, in turn widens your spectrum of other clothing choices. If you felt, you couldn’t wear your favorite skirt before summer arrived; pair it with a blazer and see the transformation for yourself.

The last and most pressing reason blazers are a great choice, is because they offer you value for your money.  As they are everlasting and don’t come with a time limit to stop wearing them – you can buy them whenever you like. Which is where waiting for sale season pays off. Not only can you buy them at a discount – but use them whole year round.

I really love wearing blazers at every chance I can get. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
